I met the very interesting Russ Baker a few days ago, here in New York, and he told me about his new investigative journalism project Realnews.org. At the moment the website contains just a handful of stories, the main one (9000 words) about Bush-pals Joe Allbaugh and Michael Brown and how they turned FEMA into their cash cow. Baker’s got a whole bunch of important people on his board but is still in the early days of planning and fundraising. The idea is to create a hub for hard-nosed, thorough reporting that the mainstream media neither has the will nor money to drive. Check out the story, and return again in a few weeks.
