Incredibly, Avaaz.org – the global online activism community – has reached 1 million members in just six months. Here’s a summary of all the campaigns they’ve run in that time. They’ve steadily been building infrastructure and membership. I wonder when and which issue they will choose to really flex their muscles. And will they give members any say in what it will be?
A million is impressive, but what does ‘membership’ mean – filling in a form is a fairly easy form of activism, but turning online support into real-world impact is, as most political parties will tell you, far from straightforward.
But hey, someone has to get it right -let’s hope they do :-)
