Web 3.0 0

Nov12

Just when you were beginning to understand Web 2.0, they had to come up with Web 3.0. It sounds very much like the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (the book in the book).

Danish media storm 4

Oct20

The conference in Denmark was followed by some neat interviews in the Danish press about openDemocracy (and moi). Here is interview with the newspaper Information, and an audio interview from P1’s Mennesker og Medier. The fact that I am able to link to the newspaper article, is thanks to a little contstructive controversy here: Danish / English.

Here is an audio interview with my father, Dan Larsen, on ComputerWorld about Web 2.0 and Danish media. He spoke at the conference too, and we both blogged about it in Danish, here: Blogbyblog.

New Media Days in Denmark 1

Oct11

I’ve been strolling around a Danish new media conference today, representing openDemocracy, and actually relishing the opportunity to talk and think about future strategies and ideas. This is me, being interviewed for a Danish podcast. The geeks among you will be excited to hear, that Doc Searls might become the next new member of the Danish-Puerto Rican Society (or so we jested). I was serious. Especially about the whole thing about the party in California.

The latest money-maker from Flickr, nice idea.

Streetmaps 0

I just discovered that Yahoo Maps (unlike MapQuest and Google Maps) has subway and busstops included on search results.

Mash-up media 0

Aug15

And now for the latest in user-developed content. You may have heard about Mash-up music (I have). Mash-up video is new to me. Sivacracy blogs that the Washington Post is playing around with video on their site. They provide the questions, you find a video and edit to create the answers. Upload and participate, for fun. And fame.

Millions of hundred $$ ideas 1

Concept blogs work. Here’s a blog full of useless ideas for making lots of money selling stuff you can’t live without.

And here’s a website which automatically checks for misspellings in Ebay auctions to try and sneak you a better deal.

iCommons in Brazil 0

Becky and Sam are in Rio for the creative commons conference, iCommons. They are live-blogging it on openDemocracy. Sam wrote an interesting post on Brazilian independent music distributor, Trama, who have been doing free and cool things way before iTunes or MySpace even existed. Download some free music there. They’ve made it their business.

Save the internet 0

I won’t bore you about “net neutrality”. I’ll let Moby do it in a really bad video with good intentions. I couldn’t finish it. Lots of other videos about this circulating, thanks to a couple of “viral video” competitions. Apparently it only takes a $1000 prize to get people talking about something. Save the internet, people. The video below is better:

Fraud victims unite 0

Jun8

Someone stole my credit card number last month and decided to spend £1413.63 on electrical goods from MUANGTHONG ENGINEERING in Thailand. They also tried to spend £2000 with an online retailer in Turkey. The money will be refunded to my glowing red account if I sign a document promising it wasn’t me. The lady on the fraud prevention hotline asked me if I’d ever let the card leave my sight. Do restaurants count?

The bad guys may have gotten good at finding their victims online (who know’s if that’s where my card was nubbed), but the internet victims are also skilled at finding and sharing information about the bad guys. This article is from 2002, but several of the links in it are still active, like ebayersthatsuck.com. Fraud Aid are still doing good work, as are Artists Against 419 who “flashmob” Nigerian spammers. There is even a new urban slang term for someone who defrauds someone else and is then publicly humiliated on the internet.
